About History

Irish dancers and musicians helped the Cancer Research Campaign a step towards its goal on Saturday by raising £2,000 with their sell-out Dance Showcase in Saundersfoot. The event was staged in memory of Julie Hynes, who brought Irish dancing to Pembrokeshire, and who sadly lost her own battle to cancer 10 years ago, when she was only 39. Dancers from the Seren School of Irish Dancing and the Harries-Hardy School of Irish Dance - both run by past pupils of Julie - as well as the former Hynes School took to the stage of the Regency Hall for the showcase. There were guest performances by champion dancer Sam Davies and Irish World Academy of Music and Dance graduate, Siobhan O’Sullivan, as well as music from talented brother and sister Talfan and Siriol Jenkins, who were also taught dancing by Julie. “Julie would have been so proud,” said Sam, who also compered the show with Sita Thomas. “It was a wonderful night full of music, dancing and memories.” “We were thrilled to be able to hand over £2,000 to the Cancer Research Campaign, and our raffle raised a further £350 for a lady recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. “It was such a fantastic evening,” said Rosemary Hayes, the president of the Saundersfoot committee of the Cancer Research Campaign. “We just can’t say thank you enough to everyone who took part and supported the event.”
